The Isle of Raasay Distillery is located on the idyllic Isle of Raasay, one of the Inner Hebrides in the northwest of Scotland. This unique location offers a breathtaking backdrop and ideal climatic conditions for whisky production. Founded in 2014 by visionary entrepreneurs Alasdair Day and Bill Dobbie, the distillery is the first legal whisky production facility on the island.
An essential part of the Isle of Raasay Distillery's production process is the water, which comes from an Iron Age Celtic well. This water is particularly rich in minerals as it is filtered through the volcanic and sandstone-like rock of the island. The natural minerals contribute significantly to the characteristic taste of the whisky.
The Isle of Raasay Cask Strength Whisky matures in a unique combination of three cask types: First Fill Rye Whiskey Casks, Virgin Chinkapin Oak Casks and First Fill Bordeaux Red Wine Casks. The whisky is neither colored nor chill-filtered, which preserves its natural purity and full depth of flavor. This renunciation preserves the authentic color of the whisky and all natural aromas and oils are retained in the end product.
