However, the October Revolution marked a drastic turning point, as the distillery was confiscated by the government and the family was forced to flee to Constantinople. There, Vladimir managed to build a new distillery and restart production.<br><br>Four years later, the family moved to Lviv, Ukraine - where they continued their business. In 1925, the spelling of the name was officially changed to "Smirnoff", a move that facilitated international market access.
