<p>The story of Smirnoff Vodka began in 1910, when Vladimir Smirnov took over the management of the distillery after the death of his father, Pyotr Smirnov. However, the October Revolution marked a drastic turning point, as the distillery was confiscated by the government and the family was forced to flee to Constantinople. There, Vladimir managed to build a new distillery and restart production.<br><br>Four years later, the family moved to Lviv, Ukraine - where they continued their business. In 1925, the spelling of the name was officially changed to "Smirnoff", a move that facilitated international market access.
