<p>The Kerschbaum Opera 2021 is a distinctive red wine cuvée from Central Burgenland, impressing with its depth, structure, and impressive elegance. The traditional family winery Kerschbaum has been one of Austria's top addresses for high-quality red wines for years – with the Opera, it presents a cuvée that masterfully combines expression and harmony.<br><br>The blend consists of 60% Blaufränkisch and 40% Merlot – a combination in which the Blaufränkisch sets the tone with its spiciness, structure, and freshness, while the Merlot lends the wine dark fruit, richness, and soft contours. The carefully hand-picked grapes were gently fermented spontaneously on the skins for 21 days, lending the wine density and depth. It then aged for 18 months in new 500-liter oak barrels, which further enhances its complexity and ageing potential.</p><p><strong>Tasting notes:</strong></p><p>In the glass, the 2021 Opera presents a dense, dark ruby ​​garnet color with violet reflections. The nose reveals a finely balanced interplay of aromas of dark berries, sweet cherry, subtle spice, some cedarwood, and a hint of chocolate. On the palate, the wine is dense, powerful, yet balanced, with velvety tannins, elegant fruit, and a well-integrated oak note. The finish is long, silky, and carried by ripe fruit and spicy nuances.<br><br>Acidity: 5.5 g/l.<br><br>The Kerschbaum Opera is a versatile food companion, ideally paired with terrines, succulent pork and veal dishes, as well as with mushroom risotto or strong cheeses. Served at 16°C, the wine reveals itself at its best – a powerful, sophisticated red wine with depth and character, which is a great pleasure both neat and with fine cuisine.
