<p>Unofficially, the Ardbeg distillery has been distilling since 1794 - in 1815, the distillery was purchased by John McDougall and officially opened under the name Ardbeg.<br>"Ardbeg" comes from the Gaelic and translated means something like "small hill".<br>The distillery is located on the south coast of the whisky region of Islay.<br><br>Dr. Bill Lumsden, Director of Distilling, presents this new permanent bottling of Ardbeg; a small batch that is released annually.<br><br>Ardbeg TRAIGHT BHAN Batch No. 5 is a 19 year old whisky and the latest bottling in the outstanding Ardbeg range, which is mostly aged in oloroso sherry casks. Batch No. 5 undergoes additional maturation in American Oak casks. This combination of cask aging gives it remarkable depth and complexity.
