<p>Perched on the rugged coastline of Islay, Bunnahabhain Distillery has been crafting whisky since 1881, carving out a distinctive identity among its peaty island neighbours. Unlike many Islay malts, Bunnahabhain uses spring water drawn from chalky sources and channelled to the distillery without ever touching peat, resulting in a gentler, more approachable spirit that has become the house's signature.</p><p>The distillery's history is closely tied to the sea. Originally dependent on maritime trade, Bunnahabhain saw a major shift in 1960 when a new road was built to improve access, easing its reliance on ships (the last of which docked in 1993). Following a brief closure in the 1930s and a modern rebrand after Burn Stewart Distillers took ownership in 2006, Bunnahabhain has continued to build its reputation for elegant, unpeated whisky.</p><p>This particular release, the 14 Years Old Ruby Port Cask Matured Limited Edition, was created specially to mark Fèis Ìle, Islay's beloved festival of music and whisky. The spirit spent its first 11 years resting in bourbon casks before being moved into Ruby Port hogsheads for a further three years of finishing, adding depth and character to the distillery's classic profile. Originally filled into bourbon casks on 26 May 2009 and later transferred on 17 November 2020, this whisky is bottled at cask strength of 58.7% ABV and presented in a 0.7l bottle within a giftbox, making it a fitting collector's item for whisky enthusiasts and Bunnahabhain fans alike.</p>
