<p>The Salzl Grande Cuvée Josanna 2021 is a prime example of the fine art of red wine cuvée in Burgenland. It comes from the renowned Salzl Seewinkelhof winery, which is based in Illmitz on the eastern shore of Lake Neusiedl. For generations, the family winery has stood for powerful, terroir-driven red wines with an international style and Austrian soul. The cuvée combines the Zweigelt, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Cabernet Franc varieties - an exceptionally harmonious composition that combines depth, fruity richness and spice.<br><br>The vines grow on particularly complex soils: loess-like Chernozem with a high gravel content, Paratschernosem with gravel-rich sand and pure sandy soil - perfect conditions for structured and mineral red wines. Traditional mash fermentation in steel tanks at around 30 °C with a maceration period of 14 days, followed by malolactic fermentation, forms the basis for a powerful, dense wine with great balance. The cuvée then matures for 12 months in small oak barrels, which gives it depth, elegance and a hint of precious wood spice. The wine is sealed with natural cork and has considerable ageing potential until 2033.&nbsp;</p><h3>Tasting notes:</h3><p>The Salzl Grande Cuvée Josanna is deep dark in the glass with an opaque core and fine rim brightening - a visual statement of concentration and maturity. The nose is intense, dominated by black cherry fruit, cassis and blueberries, accompanied by chocolate, cocoa and herbal spices. Fine notes of orange zest, rum coconut and delicate roasted aromas round off the complex bouquet. On the palate, the wine impresses with a pronounced concentration of berry fruit, a balanced, round texture and supple tannins. Aromas of plum, ripe wild cherry, espresso, vanilla and blackcurrant unfold in many layers. The finish is mineral, with nougat, precious wood spice and a hint of extract-sweet elegance.<br><br>Acidity: 4.4 g/l<br>Residual sugar: 2.3 g/l<br>Drinking temperature: 16-18 °C<br><br>The Grande Cuvée Josanna is perfect for rich dishes. It is ideal with braised beef, herb-crusted lamb, game dishes with a dark sauce, grilled steaks or mature hard cheese. It also shows all its class with autumnal dishes such as mushroom ragout or pumpkin risotto with truffle oil. As a full-length soloist or with a festive menu - this cuvée brings depth, elegance and a touch of luxurious opulence to the glass.</p>
