<p>The history of Picon liqueur in Africa began about 150 years ago.&nbsp;</p><p>A soldier named Gaetan Picon created it in 1837, after his return from Algeria.</p><p>Before he named his creation Picon, it was called Amer African.&nbsp;</p><p>The base of the Picon is made from the distillation of orange peel, gentian extract, cinchona bark, sugar, caramel and alcohol.&nbsp;</p><p>The special thing about the Picon Bière is that the liqueur is mixed with pilsner or wheat beer.</p><p><strong>Tasting notes:</strong></p><ul><li>Fruity aromas of oranges before more complex notes of gentian and quinquina round off the taste.&nbsp;</li></ul><p>Best enjoyed with beer: Pour half a litre of chilled beer onto 3cl Picon Bière - refine with a dash of lemon.</p>
