<p>Varela Hermanos was founded in&nbsp;1908 by&nbsp;a&nbsp;young Spanish immigrant, Don José Varela Blanco.<br>This plant was the first such enterprise founded in&nbsp;the Republic of&nbsp;Panama.<br>In&nbsp;1936, 3 eldest sons&nbsp;— José Manuel, Plinio and Julio&nbsp;— persuaded their father to&nbsp;start distilling sugar cane to&nbsp;make rum.<br>Since that time, this company has been the leader in&nbsp;the production of&nbsp;alcoholic beverages in&nbsp;Panama.</p><p>According to&nbsp;the old technology for the production of&nbsp;rum, cut sugar cane is&nbsp;crushed, extracting juice from it.<br>Then, by&nbsp;boiling the concentrated juice, molasses is&nbsp;created.<br>The young rum is&nbsp;distilled during the rainy season and aged in&nbsp;small white oak barrels.<br>At&nbsp;the final stage, it&nbsp;is&nbsp;filtered and bottled.</p><p>At&nbsp;present, the company owns 1,200 hectares of&nbsp;sugar cane plantations, from which 65,000 tons of&nbsp;cane are harvested annually and 1 million boxes of&nbsp;rum are produced from it, which is&nbsp;90% of&nbsp;the domestic strong alcohol market.</p><p>Ron Abuelo CENTURIA Reserva de la Familia is&nbsp;matured in&nbsp;white oak barrels for up&nbsp;to&nbsp;30 years, making it&nbsp;a&nbsp;Family Reserve.<br>Due to&nbsp;the traditional Solera method, this rum is&nbsp;only produced in&nbsp;limited quantities.</p><p><strong>Colour: </strong>Amber.<br><strong>Nose: </strong>powerful, tropical fruit, vanilla, tobacco, hints of&nbsp;coffee.<br><strong>Flavour: </strong>rich, rich, smooth, sweet, spicy, notes of&nbsp;pastry, honey, toffee, liquorice and fruit.<br><strong>Finish: </strong>Long lasting.</p>
